When we left Hilo, it was at night and the captain informed us we'd be passing right by where the lava was flowing into the ocean. We were 1 1/2 miles offshore, so taking pictures of the event were out of the question, but, I want you to know, it was the most awesome thing I've ever seen.
Everybody kept telling us that when we got to Kona it would be hot and dry...yeah, well, it was just as cloudy and foggy over on the other side as it was in Hilo. I had made arrangements online to rent a convertible in every port and do our own sightseeing. We actually got to put the top down for about 20 minutes, before having to put it up again because of the rain. Since we got to see the volcano and the black sand beach the day before, Jeanne wanted to see some waterfalls, so we drove back over to the other side and saw some waterfalls....
