This next picture is of a spit of land over Yellowstone Lake. In the days of horse and buggy, they built up this roadbed with rocks along the sides and dirt, then they placed planks over the dirt for the stagecoaches to pass through. Riding in a stagecoach, as you can imagine, was very rough, so most people opted to ride in boats to get to the hotel on the lake.
