We got as far as Benson, about a 5 1/2 hour drive east from Yuma, where we stayed at the Saguaro Co-op, an Escapee park we belong to. We have quite a lot of friends who live there at various times & were hoping we could visit with whoever was left while we were there. Our friends, Jack & Jeanne have a real nice casita on their lot & we had the good fortune of parking right next to them.
We stopped there because every other time we came through that area, we were always in a hurry to get to somewhere else. This time, we were going to stay a week & see the things we had heard about, but, had yet to see.
We got there on a Friday afternoon & decided to spend Saturday, just walking around the park & visiting whoever we knew was there. I had mentioned to Jeanne that we wanted to go four wheel driving one of the days, so on Sunday, we all, with another friend went driving into the backcountry.
It was a beautiful day for it and with all the rain they had been getting over the winter, everything was quite green & lush for the desert. The trail was a good one & we even found some rocks that the guys crawled around on with the Jeeps. Well, our Jeep didn't, because it wasn't set up properly to do rock climbing, so we just sat on the sidelines watching, knowing what it felt like to do that very thing, because we used to have a Rubicon that could do anything...we had lunch & went on a small hike to see a small pool among the rocks.
