After that flood, they build a high earthen bank above the river. The thing is, we stood on top of that bank and looked at the monument and it didn't look much higher. Also, we were trying to figure out what they would do with the opening where the road goes over the bridge of the river, how would they dam it up? Wouldn't the water just flow on through?

Oh well, the next day, we drove on towards Minnesota. Time was marching on and we had a few days to sightsee before having to be in North Chicago by the 10th of Aug.
