While Ron was out walking the other morning, he saw these strange creatures running around the rocks and grass. We thought that they were giant mutant rats! But, when we showed them to the kids, they informed us that they were groundhogs. Of course, never having seen groundhogs in person before, we didn't know. Yes, I know they have that groundhog on TV, what's his name..oh, Punxsutawney Phil, but, he looks much fatter whenever we see him, so of course, we didn't think they were the same animal.

Coming from Pennsylvania I know all the groundhogs personally. There is Punxsutawney Phil, the original Groundhog, if not historically, then by attitude -- he's very 'punx rockish', Octoraro Orphie,from my neck of the woods. All in all it's just a reason to get drunk before daybreak, we get to thank one of those good old German traditions for this.
