We stayed just three days at the lake, because we were waiting for the weekend to come. We were going to see Ron's old Navy buddy,Gary, who now lives near Cedar Bluff, AL, for the weekend. We hadn't seen him since the summer of 1993, when we had just gotten on the road fulltime & he was stationed at Newport News. It was so wonderful to finally see him again & meet his wife, Juanita. They lived on a hill & just driving to it was something else. Two hairpin turns, good thing we didn't meet anyone on the way up!
We had a great weekend with them, went out for steaks the first night and then on Saturday, just pretty much vegged in the air conditioning and caught up with each other. They took us out to see their lot on the lake and we sat in the trailer for awhile. I think I've mentioned this before, but, it's been a long hot & humid summer in the midwest and south, so sitting outside was not an option. The heat has abated somewhat, being in the low 90's, instead of the mid to high 90's, but, the humidity is still awful.
Sunday, we took a ride around the rim of a canyon near their house and we got a lot of neat pictures of the surrounding area. We also took a ride on their pontoon boat around the lake. As long as we were going fairly fast, it wasn't too bad, but, when we slowed down, the heat was awful. I was almost tempted to jump into the water with all my clothes on at one point! I think I would have been a lot cooler if I had. It was a wonderful day, despite the heat. Gary & Juanita, thank you so much for your awesome hospitality!!
