I need to get this blog up to date, so I'm not always playing catch up. After we left our friends in Greensboro, we traveled to Fair Play, S.C., where there is a Thousand Trails park right off of I-85, about four miles from the Georgia border. This particular preserve is pretty run down, big potholes in the middle of the roads, never mind the fact that the roads are really too narrow to be driving a big rig on. The entire campground is on hills and even though we were on a lake, to get to it, we had to go down a very steep road to the dock. Most of the sites were up and away from the lake.
While we were there, we took a drive on the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway that goes along the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. We stopped numerous times to see waterfalls and an unfinished tunnel started in the mid 1800's, but, never finished. We also went up close to the highest point in South Carolina with wonderful views all around. If it hadn't been so hazy, it would have been great! It also was at least 10-15 degrees cooler than down below, so we didn't mind staying up there awhile.
