They have two tours every day, morning and afternoon. Since the temperatures were to get into the high 90's, we decided to take 7:30AM tour, to beat most of the heat by the time we arrived. Our tour guide told us it would take 2 1/2 hours to reach the bridge, because every time we passed a houseboat, we had to slow way down so they wouldn't be tossed about by our wake. Some of the private houseboats were very nice indeed, as you will see.

The pilot of the boat pointed out various things to us, and we also were issued a communication device with earphones that told us some of the history of the area from the Indians
to the early miners and mountain men. We could even see a coal mining
operation run by the Navajos in the distance.
