We looked in our Elks book & found a lodge that allows RV parking in Granite City, IL. We got there just in time to find out that they were having a carnival that weekend. All food that they normally serve in the lodge, would be served outside at the carnival. It said in the book that they had two electric hookups, but, guess what? They were using them for the carnival, so we just parked out on the far side of the lot. By dark, we were surrounded by a sea of cars. We went out & had their hamburgers & a funnel cake, listened to a band that had set up, walked around a bit to look at what was there, then went back to the rig...only to find out that there must have been a racetrack nearby because we heard those engines revving until almost midnight.

In the morning, all was quiet & deserted, so we made our escape. We drove through the rest of Illinois & right straight across the state of Indiana to almost the Ohio state line to stay the weekend with our friends.
